The Special Undercover Investigation Team was founded in the 1930s by General Inspector Tract, who appeared as a ghost in From Badger to Worse, which also revealed his sad demise. Pat Lewis’ sample art instead shows him in his prime, clearing out the later long forgotten S.U.I.T. bunker Cilantro and Monocle were sent to in the opening volume. The General Inspector may now be a ghost, but he has some unfinished business with S.U.I.T. As his chance to prove the existence of aliens was whipped away he wants to solve one last case, but which mystery should he pick?

Writers John Patrick Green and Christopher Hastings start as they mean to continue by shovelling in those puns. Tract’s successor is I. Deneau (geddit?) with plenty more where that came from, especially when a skeleton needs to be identified.

Whereas the previous volumes each focussed on specific agents, Wild Ghost Chase is more of a team effort with most known agents putting in an appearance sooner or later. Monocle plays a large part, reluctantly co-opted by Tract, and it’s surprising that most of the early investigation is pieced together by Zeb the sheep. Just as in parent series InvestiGators, the writers are putting together running jokes for this series, one being the janitor who knows the way to all the lost locations in headquarters, no matter how similar the names.

Three volumes in, Agents of S.U.I.T. may not be solely down to Green, but it’s another guaranteed mark of quality laughs in the same world. Learn the difference between stealing and requisitioning, find out how to make a proper weenie roast and meet some of the world’s most mysterious and reclusive creatures. It’s all very silly, just as we want, and another winner.
